Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (President: Masatomo Nakamura) has launched
the sale of new PPC paper* that reflects the Company's own environmental concept,
Green Proportion™.
The new lineup in the Reborn Series** includes products with 20% recycled wastepaper
content, in addition to forestry-certified paper and products with the Company's
original ecological label.
Coinciding with the renewal, production of the Reborn Clean Series will be discontinued
in this coming September. With 70-100% recycled wastepaper content, the Reborn
Clean Series retain 80% brightness, almost equal to woodfree PPC paper.
FSC certified paper is sold as forestry-certified paper. The sale of PEFC and
other lineups of certified paper will also be considered.

PPC is the abbreviation of "plain paper copier", and PPC paper is a type
of copy paper. |
| ** |
Reborn Series is a brand of recycled paper and started in 1990. |
Background to Renewal
Compatible with copying machines and printers, PPC paper is suitable for long-term
storage and can also be used for important documents. Dust and other foreign
substances on the paper surface must be thoroughly eliminated or minimized. For
this reason, standards requiring a high degree of brightness in particular impose
a new type of environmental burden, that is, the declined yield resulting from
the decline in the quality of wastepaper. Moreover, it has been shown that products
with significant wastepaper content exhaust more fossil fuel-derived CO2 in comparison
with products made from virgin pulp. Considering the lifecycle of paper, sustained
paper production requires suitable volumes of virgin pulp that must be procured
from sustainable forestry resources. This background led to a decision to renew
the series with new wastepaper-derived products, forestry-certified paper and
other new products.
Production Schedule
(1) |
Time: Renewal will start in August 2007. |
| (2) |
The production of discontinued brands will
basically stop in September 2007. |

Green Proportion™
 |
The principal materials used in the production of paper come from forest resources produced through afforestation and from wastepaper. Biomass energy produced in the process for manufacturing pulp is efficiently utilized.
Unlike household appliances and automobiles, paper does not consume energy when people use it. Based on these characteristics, Green Proportion™ represents the Company's concepts on what paper can do for the environment. |
The three elements of Green Proportion™
(1) |
"Refresh" water and air |
| (2) |
Put waste and resources on a "Diet" (reduce
and economize resources in environmental aspects) |
| (3) |
"Recycle" paper and forest resources |
 |
By balancing
a combination of these three elements according to use, the Company aims to ensure
that every type of paper helps to preserve the environment and minimizes its
environmental burden. |
