Nippon Paper Industries, Co., Ltd. (President: Masatomo Nakamura) and Nippon Paper Crecia Co., Ltd. (President: Kazuhiro Sakai) have jointly developed a tissue product called Crecia® Fabree that features a carton with photocatalytic functions added.
This is the world's first application of photocatalysis technology, which is effective for refreshing the air, to tissue cartons. Crecia® Fabree decomposes odorous components and refreshes the air, just by keeping it in a place exposed to sunlight or fluorescent light (ultra-violet rays).

Nippon Paper Crecia will commence sales of the new product at the end of March.

[What is photocatalysis?]
A chemical reaction is induced when titanium oxide is lit by light. Substances that similarly induce chemical reactions by light are referred to as "photocatalysts." Using the photocatalytic functions, organic compounds in the air and formaldehyde, causes of sick house syndrome, can be decomposed.
Titanium oxide has been used in cosmetics, paints and for paper making, and poses no safety threat.
