The Nippon Paper Group will be calling on the general public for comments and
suggestions for the purpose of formulating the philosophy and basic policy on
raw material procurement. Engaging in a
dialogue with stakeholders, the Group will establish its philosophy and basic
policy concerning raw material procurement for use as the basis for preparing
and instituting more concrete action plans.
The Nippon Paper Group has been actively endeavoring to promote overseas
afforestation and to make positive use of the forest certification programs in
accordance with the philosophy of its Charter on the Environment: Sustainable
Corporate Activities in Harmony with Nature . In October 2003, in
addition to the environmental efforts, the Group established the Corporate
Social Responsibility (CSR) promotion system to fulfill its comprehensive
social responsibilities as a corporate group in its business management. In
addition, a new subcomittee to bolster the supply chain management, the Raw
Materials Subcommittee, was set up in October 2004, with a view to ensuring
stable procurement of raw materials for paper in a sustainable manner in
consideration of global environmental conservation as well as the cultural and
natural characteristics of local communities.
Since its establishment, the Raw Materials Subcommittee has been pursuing the
best approach to the Group's raw materials procurement by organizing CSR
seminars focusing on raw materials procurement and by conducting analyses on
the current status of raw materials procurement. In light of the results of its
past activities, the Subcommittee is now determined to communicate with the
public to set out the "philosophy and basic policy" and subsequent
action plans.
