Special Art Appreciation Gathering took place on November 27 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum during the period of the State Hermitage Museum Exhibition. Despite the rainy weather, nearly 720 visitors gathered at the Museum, including specially invited persons with a physical disability and their companions.
Nippon Paper Group has taken part in all of the Special Art Appreciation Gatherings since the State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts Exhibition in last November. Twenty staff members from Nippon Paper Group volunteered at the State Hermitage Museum Exhibition. Each of the volunteers worked very hard to fulfill their roles, which included providing reception and guidance services in elevator areas while looking after visitors with a disability.
Two staff members from Nippon Paper Industries and one from Nippon Daishowa Paperboard joined representatives of NPO Able Art Japan in accompanying physically disabled visitors, to provide an explanation on the exhibitions.
Following are some of the comments made by the volunteers:
"This is the first time for me to guide persons with visual disability.
As I tried to explain the size, color and composition of pictures, I found myself
immersed in the world of art just like they did. It really was an enjoyable experience."
"I’m really glad to be a part of the project as I was able to watch physically
challenged persons relax and enjoy the exhibitions."
"It’s good to see them really
involved in the exhibitions. Maybe I was able to help them to some extent."
The
volunteers had a meeting after they saw the visitors off. Staff members of Tokyo
Metropolitan Art Museum and the people from Able Art Japan who gave explanation
about the exhibitions kindly thanked other volunteers, saying that it had been
a year since Nippon Paper Group became a part of the project and that the volunteers’ cooperation in reception and guidance were very helpful to the prevention of
confusion that might have otherwise resulted from overcrowding.
Nippon Paper
Group will continue to take part in Special Art Appreciation Gatherings with
an aim to help physically challenged persons appreciate art works.
