Exhibition of Works from the Pushkin Museum of Art Supporting “A Special Art Appreciation Gathering for the Physically Challenged”

On November 28, 2005, a special art appreciation gathering for the physically challenged was held at an exhibition of works from the Pushkin Museum of Art at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum.
Under sunny skies, approximately 650 physically challenged people and their attendants came to the museum.
Thirty-one company employees volunteered to participate in the event from Nippon Paper Group. This was the first time for them to perform volunteer work, but the staff of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum and an NPO from Able Art Japan taught them the basics of being a receptionist, handing out leaflets and guiding the visitors to the elevators.
A trial booth for the most stretchable paper, WAVY WAVY®, was set up especially for the occasion.
After the gathering, the staff and volunteer workers gave us unexpected and pleasant feedback, commenting that it was very helpful for the elevator to be called at just the right time and that it was moving to see the handicapped people having fun experiencing WAVY WAVY®. It was a very fruitful day.

Prior to the special gathering, 15 other company members volunteered and meSt to make souvenir bags containing WAVY WAVY® for the visitors.

This is a project that Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum has been working on since 1999 by making use of a day off during every planned exhibition. The museum becomes very crowded during popular planned exhibits and the physically challenged cannot appreciate art in a relaxing manner. The museum opens specially on its day off free of charge so that those who are in wheelchairs or visually impaired can enjoy the much talked about exhibits in a leisurely and secure environment.

The exhibition features works from the enormous Schukin-Morozov Collection by the Russian millionaires, Sergey Schukin and Ivan Morozov, including the world's leading modern French paintings by Monet, Renoir, Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso and others.
