Komatsushima Mill has opened a field
on its grounds to soccer schools and high school clubs in the community, which
use it for soccer.
Built in 1982 as part of an environmental initiative, the field was actually created
by employees themselves, who seeded and grew the grass. It has since found a number
of uses, given the relative scarcity of grass pitches in Tokushima Prefecture.
In 1991, for example, the NHK Soccer School used the field. And in 1993, the NHK
Cup Tokushima Junior High School Soccer Championship was also held there and broadcast
on the NHK main channel.
Komatsushima Boys Soccer
School began using the field in 1975 when several members
of the Komatsushima Mill Soccer Club, known as the Kokusaku
Kickers began to assist the school as instructors. The
school has consistently excelled in soccer, having won first
prize twice and second prize five times in the prefectural
tournament.
Since 2001, the grounds at Komatsushima High School have been
unavailable because school buildings are being rebuilt. The
soccer club has been using the field at Komatsushima Mill
for practice.

Hiroshi Yokota, Coach of the Komatsushima
High School Soccer Club
Thanks to the opening of the field to the community, we now have the opportunity
to use this excellent environment to meet with soccer enthusiasts in the community
and try our skills out on strong teams from other prefectures in practice games.
This has also contributed to the emergence of the first J-League player to come
from our school, Hiroyuki Hayashi, who is also a member of the national team for
the U-20 World Cup. We are really grateful for this support, both in the past
and in the future.
