Every August, Yatsushiro Mill of Nippon
Paper Industries Co., Ltd. takes part in cleaning activities on the "Kumamoto Day of Creating Rivers and the
Sea for All," a program in which people from around the prefecture are
encouraged to unite in cleaning their local rivers and sea.
This year's event enjoyed the participation of 841 people from 25 organizations,
despite a light rain.
Yatsushiro Mill cannot operate without the water from the Kumagawa River. The
Mill called for volunteers from throughout the workplace. As a consequence, a
total of 51 employees joined the cleaning squad to show their gratitude for the
water on behalf of the Mill. Departing from the Youme Town, the party walked
downstream along the right bank of the Maekawa River to the Shinkai Fishing Port
to clean a section of approximately one kilometer in length.
