Komatsushima Mill of Nippon Paper industries
Co., Ltd. has opened a field on its grounds to soccer schools and high school
clubs in the community, which use it for soccer. Built in 1982 as part of an environmental
initiative, the field was actually created by employees themselves, who seeded
and grew the grass. It has since found a number of uses, given the relative scarcity
of grass pitches in Tokushima Prefecture. In 1991, for example, the NHK Soccer
School used the field. And in 1993, the NHK Cup Tokushima Junior High School Soccer
Championship was also held there and broadcast on the NHK main channel.
Komatsushima
Boys' Soccer School began using the field in 1975 when several members of the
Komatsushima Mill Soccer Club, known as the Kokusaku Kickers began
to assist the school as instructors. Since 2001, Komatsushima High School's soccer
club has been using the field at Komatsushima Mill for practice.
