In July 2001, an exhibition room called "Kami no Hiroba" ("Paper
Plaza") opened for the public at the Ishinomaki Mill. By making it fun and
easy to view, touch and make things, the room provides elementary and junior high
school students with the opportunity to learn about environmentally-aware production
and the importance of recycling.
The exhibits and panels explain the paper production process, the effective use
of waste, and environmentally-friendly paper production. Visitors can try manufacturing
paper themselves from de-inked pulp actually used at the plant. Kami no Hiroba
is a popular place that even allows visitors to take home original postcards
they manufacture themselves from recycled paper.
