Kitakami Paper Co., Ltd. has placed “paper resource baskets” on its premises since 2000. Small and medium enterprises and the general public can deposit wastepaper in the baskets at any time. The purpose of the baskets is to collect wastepaper that has yet to be collected or incinerated in the existing wastepaper collection systems, and to recycle this paper into paper resources. The baskets were put out by Kitakami Paper Co., Ltd. as the local paper manufacturer in response to requests from residents of neighboring communities. The wastepaper brought in is categorized into newsprint, corrugated fiberboard, old magazines, kraft paper bags and milk cartons. There is no restriction on when the wastepaper can be brought in, so users can do so whenever is most convenient for them. A roll of paper string, an environmentally-friendly product made by the Company, is given to users who bring in wastepaper.
