Thirty little reporters for the Yomiuri Shimbun visited Yatsushiro Mill on August
6, 2005.
The visit takes place each year, as part of the Yomiuri Summer Social Studies
Lesson hosted by the Yomiuri Shimbun. Yatsushiro Mill has offered the children
opportunities to act as reporters, as one of the regional public associations
and enterprises that support the Kyushu region.
The children were full of energy when they arrived at the Mill. After watching
a video on the Mill, they listened intently to explanations on the paper manufacturing
process and took notes as if they were real newspaper reporters. They then observed
the manufacturing process for de-inked pulp and newsprint making machines.
On the last day of the summer recess, the best reports (compositions) among those
written by the young reporters were printed in the Yomiuri Shimbun.
