Social Contribution Subcommittee

In October 2003, Nippon Paper Group established an organization to promote CSR, to fulfill comprehensive social responsibilities that encompass ethics, fairness, transparency and risk management capabilities, in addition to its economic and environmental measures. Under the new organization, Nippon Paper Group intends to contribute actively toward social development as a corporate citizen. In March 2004, the Group set out a philosophy and established principles for its community activities, and we plan to take the following initiatives.

Nippon Paper Group's Corporate Citizenship Initiatives
· Promote corporate citizenship activities in which our employees play an active role
· Increase the community involvement of the mills of the Group companies and overseas affiliates
· Create corporate citizenship programs on a scale appropriate for the Group
· Promote activities that effectively utilize the businesses and expertise of each Group company
· Effectively use the forests owned by Nippon Paper Industries in Japan (about 90,000 ha)
· Establish a system to support employees' voluntary social activities
· Employ effective PR inside and outside of the Group
