We at the Nippon Paper Group demonstrate a clear commitment to work on the areas of safety and health, and in October 2004 established a Nippon Paper Group "Philosophy and Basic Policy on Safety and Health Measures" to move forward based on a philosophy and policy that unites all of our safety and health initiatives, which had previously been implemented separately in each mill or office. Based on this philosophy and policy, we will continue to strive to develop a safe, pleasant work environment.

In addition to acknowledging that it is a company's duty to guarantee safety and health and striving to develop pleasant, improved working conditions, we pledge to work ceaselessly to prevent any and all accidents, minor or major.
