Located in the center of Kyushu Island, the Yatsushiro
Mill has been papermilling and continuously integrating technological innovations
since 1924. It is closely situated to the Kuma River, which plays a significant
role in the production of quality paper, and is also conveniently located for
the transport of recycled paper, wood chips and other materials as well as the
shipment of finished products from the Mill. The only one of Nippon Paper
Groups mills located on Kyushu Island, the Yatsushiro Mill operates in all
phases of the production process. Starting with pulp, the Mill turns out a number
of paper products, including newsprint, woodfree paper and communication paper.
Further, the Mill has aggressively upgraded facilities and improved efficiency
and competitiveness by introducing highly advanced newsprint milling machinery
as well as the worlds first automatic newsprint roll transport systems. In
a historically rich area of Kyushu Island, with Kumamoto Castle and Suizenji Park
nearby, the Mill maintains a guest house, built in 1925, that collects and stores
historically important paintings and calligraphy pieces.
