The Shiraoi Mill is located in a coastal area
virtually in the middle of Tomakomai City and Muroran City in the resource-rich
south of Hokkaido and commenced operations in 1960. The town of Shiraoi, where
the mill is located, has abundant water resources and because of its warm coastal
climate it is the region that has the least snowfall in Hokkaido, with the deepest
snowfall in the last 30 years being about 40cm.
In 1996, the mill began production of coated paper using a state-of-the-art large
coating machine facility and it now produces diverse kinds of paper besides its
previous high quality paper, newsprint and business communication paper.
Moreover, the mill conducts considerate environmental operations, for example,
contributing to the region in its paper recycling activities by providing wastepaper
collection boxes within Shiraoi.
