Soka Mill is located in Soka City, situated in the center of the Kanto Plain. This city is known as the heartland for Soka sembei (rice crackers) and as the second post station of the Nikko Way, an historic road traveled by many important cultural figures including Basho Matsuo, the haiku master. Established in 1964, Soka Mill produces industrial paperboard, including linerboard and corrugating medium, as the paperboard specialty mill of Nippon Paper Group. The Mill has evolved into a key mill for paperboards, taking advantage of the tremendous local consumption of products and wastepaper production. In addition, the Mill owns a private electrical power facility that not only provides electricity to the Mill but also sells power to other businesses. In this and many other ways, the Mill is becoming more self-sufficient and resourceful. Currently, the Mill is actively involved in recycling to minimize the generation of waste. Indeed, it is aiming for a final waste disposal volume per product weight of less than 0.01%. In cooperation with the local community and recycling organizations, the Mill has also started to accept wastepaper that is normally incinerated. We will continue to recycle wastepaper and create more cost-effective products.
