Built in 1939 as a dissolving pulp production
factory, the Iwakuni Mill is situated along the Seto Inland Sea, which allows
for convenient sea transport of materials to production sites and for the distribution
of products. The Mill benefits from abundant water and reasonably priced mineral
resources in an area highlighted by such naturally beautiful and historically
significant sites as the Kintai bridge and the Miyajima National Park. The Iwakuni
Mill produces mainly woodfree paper, coated paper and communication paper, and
turns out the largest volume of coated paper of all the Nippon Paper
Groups paper mills. It has even accelerated its coated paper production
and raised quality levels with the introduction of Japans largest-scale,
most advanced 5KP facility, as well as No.8 recovery boiler and No.9 paper machine.
The Mill is equipped with state-of-the-art caster coasters to augment the production
of ink-jet paper, which is in ever-increasing demand for the use of digital camera
prints.
